Between a rock and a hard place, the Johnsons Park neighborhood remains a quality place to live.

These three beautiful homes sit on what were once vacant lots that sold for only $1 through the Lindsay Heights Initiative. The purpose of this incentive was to bring young families back into the city. With rising transportation costs and a weakening economy its refreshing to learn that there exits a neighborhood such as this. A close knit family oriented community that has affordable living and comes without much sacrifice. One of the main goals of the development project is to prove that families don't have to live 30 miles out of Milwaukee to enjoy a quality suburban lifestyle.

Johnsons Park Offers Many Different Housing Lifestyles

Although the Johnsons Park area has been working very hard to improve the housing in their neighborhood, there is still a lot of work to be done. This picture is of an old abandoned house in the area.

The Lindsay Heights area offers many different housing options. New houses, old houses, and apartments. The area plans on building many new apartment buildings in the area in starting in 2010.

The Johnson's Park neighborhood has many family's living in it and the Brown Street academy is the perfect place to send them for school. It is right in the neighborhood but it has very low standardized testing scores.

Rebuilding a Community

One of the main goals of JPNA is to restore their community by rehabilitating older homes and by building new homes. The fruits of their labor can be evident by just walking around the neighborhood. On every block, there are brand new beautiful houses, and new houses are going up all of the time. This adds so much to the community because families are offered homes at affordable prices. At the same time there are still many very old homes that need work and there are still a lot of vacant lots waiting for homes to to fill them. By walking around the neighborhood, you can really feel that the area is evolving and a breath of new life is being added to the community.
